Dwan played football and other sports for the Columbus Cougars in his hometown of Columbus, Montana. He was class president and an excellent student who graduated with a 3.70 GPA. Dwan was a member of the National Honor Society.

Dwan's athletic ability, as well as impressive academic record, made him a top recruit for many Division One programs. He received both an academic and an athletic football scholarship with the Oregon State Beavers.

It was under Coach Dennis Erikson that Dwan helped rebuild a program that had not had a winning season in over 30 years. Dwan was a three year starter and a two time All-Pac-10 selection at defensive tackle for the Beavers. In his time at Oregon State, the Beavers went to four bowl games with a 10-1 record in 2000 and 41-9 victory over Notre Dame in the New Year's day Fiesta Bowl. Among his accomplishments at Oregon State, Dwan felt that earning his degree in Business Administration in 2003 was his highest achievement.

All of Dwan's hard work paid off when he was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2004 NFL Draft. Over the next few years, Dwan worked his way into the defensive line rotation and started numerous games at defensive tackle for a dominating Baltimore Raven's defense.

I believe that playing sports on any level can be its own reward.  Dwan hopes to inspire the next generation about the values of faith, education, hard work, setting goals, and an importance of giving back to your community.  These are just a few of many traits that allowed me to achieve my ultimate goal of playing in the NFL.
